Dr. David A. Shmukler
Dr. Shmukler is a board certified chiropractor who has served the Kennett Square community for over 20 years. He graduated from the prestigious National College of Chiropractic and has extensive postgraduate training in neurology. He worked with the renowned medical neurologist, Dr. Martin Mandell, seeing patients with neurological conditions that most chiropractors never see.
In April of 2006, Dr. Shmukler suffered a severe stroke while jogging. He was paralyzed on the right side of his body and had great difficulty speaking. He was in Neuro-Intensive Care at Temple University Hospital for one week and Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital for three weeks. He went from being a healthy, fit and independent person to a totally dependent, very sick person. Dr. Shmukler practiced the concepts of “neuroplasticity” to help him recover. Neuroplasticity means your brain can “rewire” at anytime in your life. If you think differently or do new activities over and over, your brain can rewire.
When he could not move his right arm and right leg, he visualized that he could move them. He went from not being able to feed, bathe, or clothe himself to being able to walk and control his right hand. He was back to jogging — though in the parking lot of the hospital instead of the park — in less than four weeks after his stroke! It was a very humbling experience for Dr. Shmukler, and he feels very fortunate that he made a full recovery.
Dr. Shmukler is passionate about helping the community realize that there are natural solutions for most painful conditions and for people to take an active part in their healthcare. He specializes in treating fibromyalgia, whiplash, back and neck pain, and headaches. He has lectured to a multidisciplinary audience on whiplash injuries in Mission Viejo, California that was attended by neurosurgeons and chiropractors.
Dr. Shmukler is also a member of the Distinguished Foundation of Wellness Professionals, a non-profit organization that is composed of health care providers that educate their community on wellness and disease. Dr. Dave loves to hear from you.
